Research & Innovation
Clinical Trials
Phase II to Phase IV
At GHCT, we are at the forefront of clinical research — connecting Miami patients to groundbreaking treatments and contributing to the global advancement of medicine.
Understanding the Process
The Three Phases of Research
Each phase of a clinical trial serves a distinct purpose in the journey from laboratory discovery to approved treatment. GHCT conducts trials across all three phases.
Efficacy & Safety Testing
Phase II trials evaluate whether a new treatment works as intended and continue to assess its safety. Participants are closely monitored as researchers refine dosing and identify potential side effects.
- Typically involves 100–300 participants
- Evaluates treatment effectiveness
- Monitors short-term side effects
- Refines dosing protocols
- Builds evidence for Phase III advancement
Large-Scale Confirmation
Phase III trials confirm effectiveness, monitor adverse reactions, and compare the new treatment to existing standard-of-care options. These large-scale studies form the basis for regulatory approval.
- Involves 1,000–3,000+ participants
- Randomized controlled trial design
- Compares to existing treatments
- Provides data for FDA/regulatory review
- Multi-site, often international coordination
Post-Market Surveillance
Phase IV studies occur after a treatment has been approved and is on the market. They gather long-term safety data, identify rare side effects, and explore new uses for approved therapies.
- Conducted after regulatory approval
- Long-term safety and effectiveness monitoring
- Identifies rare or delayed adverse events
- Explores additional indications
- Supports real-world evidence generation
